London: Collins, 1960. First edition, first printing. Original publisher s boards in the dust wrapper, the latter price-clipped. A very good copy, with some light wear and soiling to the rear panel - some light loss to the folds. Together with a typed letter signed by Agatha Christie, one page, on her Greenway House, Churston Ferrers, South Devon headed paper, dated 1st January 1960. Addressed to Colonel J. S. Whitehead, Christie writes: Thank you for your kind letter regarding my work. I am sorry but I never send autographed photographs to anybody. Signed boldly in full in blue ink, Agatha Christie . Folded for posting, with light creasing and toning, and accompanied by the original envelope addressed to Colonel Whitehead. A pleasing copy of Christie s 1960 Christmas collection, made notably more attractive by the presence of a contemporary signed letter from the author, written from Greenway in the year of publication, and retaining its original mailing envelope. A characteristically direct and rather charming Christie response to an admirer, with a fine full signature. A lovely pairing: the festive Poirot collection and an original piece of Christie correspondence from the same year.
