Springfield, PA: Gauntlet Press, 2001. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. The first republication of Bradbury's first book since the original by Arkham House in 1947. Bradbury rewrote and revised about half of the stories for The October Country and the original versions of his early work remained out of print until this limited edition reissue. For this edition, edited by Donn Albright, spelling errors were corrected, but the text was kept intact. In addition, four other stories from the same era have been added. Each story is prefaced by a reproduction of the magazine cover where it originally appeared. At the back of the book are 53 pages of facsimiles of letters and typescripts related to Dark Carnival, all of which are published here for the first time. This edition also includes a history of Dark Carnival by Jon Eller, an introduction by Bradbury, and an afterword by Clive Barker. The book is accompanied by a CD of interviews with Bradbury and a chapbook story, Time Intervening, issued as a promotional item in an edition of 752 numbered copies. A bibliographically significant reissue of a landmark SF debut. This is one of 52 lettered copies issued in a drawer-like box with a metal knob.
