The first and only edition of this facsimile of Lewis Carroll s original manuscript that would later become the beloved children s fantasy novel, Alice s Adventures in Wonderland. Complete with the thirty-seven charming in-text illustrations by Carroll which were later used by John Tenniel as the basis for his illustrations in the final published work. In the publisher s original cloth binding, with gilt lettering and gilt mock Turtle stamp to the rear board. All edges gilt, with black endpapers. A faithful reproduction of Lewis Carroll s manuscript, offering a unique look into the beginnings of his nonsensical and enduring children s tale. Carroll was inspired to pick up his pen after taking the Liddell children out to a river, beginning this manuscript the very next day. The original manuscript, bound and illustrated by Carroll, was gifted to Alice Liddell and her two sisters, Edith and Lorina. Retaining the preface, postscript, Carroll s Easter Greeting and two pages of advertisements to the rear.
